Game Icons

Sakura can pull icon candidates directly out of the files a game shipped with, and also keeps a reusable icon library you can draw from or add to at any time.

When you import a game, Sakura scans the root-level files for icon candidates, in priority order:

  1. Icons embedded in .exe files — up to 4 icons per .exe at the root. If there’s a game.exe, its icons are ranked first; icons from helper/installer executables (uninstallers, setup tools, dxwebsetup, notification helpers, patchers, and similar) are ranked last.
  2. Standalone .ico files at the root (including a repair path for older paletted icon files).
  3. Cover imagesicon.png/.jpg, cover.png/.jpg, title.png/.jpg, or package.png/.jpg, checked last.

During the import flow’s Customize step, candidates appear in a horizontal row labeled by where they came from — tap one to select or deselect it. If no candidates were found, you’ll see: “No icons were found in this game.”

Expand All Icons to browse your full iCloud-backed icon library as a grid. Icons that haven’t been downloaded locally yet show a spinner while they materialize.

Tap Import to add new images to the library — they’re stored as PNGs and deduplicated by name. If the library is empty, you’ll see: “Add icons with Import, or drop them in iCloud Drive → Legacy → Assets → Icons.”

Whichever icon you choose in Customize is saved into the reusable library under the game’s name, so it’s available for other games later too.

Two ways to update a game’s icon after import:

  • Change Icon (from the game’s page) — re-runs the same candidate discovery as import, plus your full icon library. If a custom icon is already set, a Remove Icon option appears too.
  • Customize Game (long-press a game in the library) — lets you change the name, icon, and color tag together (color tags only appear if Color Tags are enabled).

Games imported through Web Transfer skip the Customize step entirely — the best-ranked icon candidate is applied automatically. Use Change Icon afterward if you’d like to pick a different one.
