Storage

Sakura keeps track of the space used by your games, saves, and backups, and gives you tools to reclaim it. See Storage Manager for the full breakdown UI — this page covers how to actually free space.

Open Library > ⋯ > Storage Manager. The disk space bar breaks usage down into:

  • Games (purple) — imported game data
  • Saves (blue) — save folders
  • Backups (green) — automatic and manual save backups
  • Other (gray) — leftover import staging files (see below)
  • Other Apps & System (yellow) — everything else on the device
  • Available (mint) — free space

”Insufficient Disk Space” During Import

Section titled “”Insufficient Disk Space” During Import”

Symptom: Importing an archive fails with “Not enough free space to extract this archive. Please free up storage and try again.”

Cause: Extracting an archive briefly needs extra headroom on top of its final installed size — roughly 3× the archive size if it has to be staged locally first (e.g. downloaded from iCloud Drive), or if it’s already local.

Solution: Free up space using the steps below, then retry the import. See Import Problems for other import-time errors.

”Out of disk space” During Web Transfer

Section titled “”Out of disk space” During Web Transfer”

Symptom: A transfer in the Web Transfer browser stops with “Out of disk space”: “The device ran out of disk space while transferring “{name}”. The transfer was stopped and its temporary files were removed — free up space and try again.”

Solution: Free up space (see below), then retry the transfer. Its temporary files are already cleaned up automatically, so no manual cleanup is needed there.

  1. Delete games you’re not playing. In the Storage Manager’s Games list, select one or more games and use Delete N Games at the bottom. Save folders are always kept even when their game is deleted, so you won’t lose progress by removing a game you plan to reimport later.
  2. Clean up backups. Lower Max Backup Slots or Max Manual Backups in Settings > Save & Data, or delete individual backups from the Backup Browser.
  3. Check the “Other” category. This is leftover import-staging data (from Documents/staging/) — it should clear itself out after a completed import, but interrupted or cancelled imports can occasionally leave residue behind. If “Other” stays large after imports have finished, see Support.
  4. Clear a game’s translation cache. If a game has translation enabled and you don’t need the cached lines anymore, Game Settings > Translation > Clear Translation Cache frees a small amount of space per game.

Sakura checks free space before starting most risky operations rather than letting them run out of room mid-way:

  • Import: checked before extraction begins (see above).
  • Web Transfer: checked continuously while receiving a file; a transfer that would exceed available space is stopped and cleaned up rather than left half-written.

These guards mean you should see a clear message (rather than a silent failure or a corrupted game) any time storage is the actual problem — if you hit an error that doesn’t match one of the messages above, see Support.
